Women and Work
This Government funded initiative is aimed at helping female employees develop their skills, which could lead to a nationally recognised qualification. In the retail motor industry, less than 20% of the workforce is female, so the scheme is also hoping to attract more women into the sector.
The rewards
Improved staff development and loyalty
The opportunity for employees to progress in their careers and exercise their management potential.
Better performance
Businesses with a diverse workforce are more likely to be innovative and creative, developing new and effective ways of increasing profitability.
Recruitment opportunities
Over 40% of the retail motor industry’s customers are women but this ratio is not reflected in its workforce, an issue this scheme is working to address.
How it works
To qualify, employers must be based in England only. They must:
- Ensure women registered on the programme have a personal development plan. This can include as many programmes, courses or development activities as an individual needs over the course of a year.
- Match the funding given, which need not be cash but instead could be time given to women to complete their particular development plan.
